I tan ridiculously easily, and my skin doesn’t ever fade back to my original skin tone for aaaaaaages. I still have a tan from a good 3 years ago (the last time I actually set out to get an tan, that is…)

The recipe I use for home-made skin lightening cream may not work…

Kind of frowning at this…

Because I know the stereotype/achetype goth is a paper-pale skinned person, but… is there a reason that anyone should be using lightening cream? I mean, if by personal preference, you want to lighten your already white skin, that’s fine, but I feel like a blog that’s toting “goth tips” reblogging something like this is problematic because of who skin-lightening products are usually aimed for.

Is there a legitimate reason that dark-skinned/tan people can’t be goth as well? Because I’ve seen POC rock goth fashion/lifestyle better than anyone.

Edit: Especially since now that I took a minute to look through the notes, there were POC reblogging it for future use. Lots of frowny faces.

I just wanted to reply to this. There is absolutely nothing saying that tanned people can’t be Goths. Have you seen me? I am nothing close to pale, and I still pride myself on being a goth. Yes, I do think that pale skin is beautiful, and yes, I admit to using this cream on occasion if I’ve it’s been particularly sunny and I’ve gotten a bit darker, purely because I like my current skin tone.

The only reason why I posted this recipe was because I like posting my day-to-day stuff on Tumblr, and that day I made this cream. I never expected to get so many notes on this. And it still shocks me that after 8/9 months, it is still working its way around Tumblr.

If people want feel more beautiful when they have pale skin, then it’s their opinion and their choice. I never felt pressured by the Gothic community that I needed pale skin, and guess what? I don’t have pale skin. I think it’s sad that some people do feel pressured, and if they do like tanned skin, then awesome. There aren’t all that many tanned Goths, make it your own, be unique. That’s one of my favorite things about Gothic fashion, making it unique.
