Thank you very much for this :)

For the goth who had to cut all her hair off. This was me exactly a year ago. I might have had 5mm, but still, definitely a goth. :D Also, as an FYI - my hair is now a blonde & blue mohawk. Hair is just hair - do what you want to it. Goth isn’t an image, it’s a lifestyle.
Thank you so much!

I am perpetually seeing things where people are questioning the “gothness” of either themselves or other people. In a subculture that is pro-individuality and seems to demonize conformity, it makes no sense to have strict molds of gothness.
There’s no such thing as a goth identity. You decide for yourself what is goth and what isn’t. If you start thinking you’re not goth enough, maybe you should stop to wonder if goth is you enough.
Thanks for the submission. I only disagree with your last line; sometimes your confidence can be knocked and if that affects you badly, you can question your own identity; it’s just a matter of building that confidence back up. And as you said, Gothic fashion isn’t a strict mold. If you are lacking the confidence to wear super ostentatious Gothic clothes, then tone it down a bit to what ever you feel you’re confident wearing.
That is actually something I forgot to mention before: starting with small steps and gradually building back up until you have your confidence.
First of all, I’m so sorry that you had to cut your hair, lovely :(
It would only be natural for you to feel as though you’ve somewhat lost your identity as the typical Goth look is long black hair. But as I always say, the wonderful thing about Gothic fashion is that you can make it yours and be completely unique about it. Don’t think of your short hair as a bad thing, think of it is something that characterises you! Emma Watson’s hair is edgy as fuck, and if you have hair like that, then you should embrace it. At first it will be difficult to get used to the change, and at first you might feel silly, but all you have to do is dress as outrageously as you like and fucking own it. If you are thinking ‘oh god I look stupid’, then you will carry yourself differently and you will look silly. But if you think ‘Hell yeah I’m dressed amazingly and people wish they could pull this off’, then you will pull it off :) It’s all about mind-set, my dear.
As for actual clothes, I would suggest a more cute-ish, Lolita approach to things: above the knee skirts with a bit of shape to them, maybe even a petticoat underneath. Maybe a clip-in mini top hat as a finishing touch… Personally, I think this will look pretty good :)
I hope that this helps, and I really hope you manage to make your hair work :)
Goths and Stereotypes
Here’s my (very shortened piece of) advice for those who feel like they don’t belong in the gothic subculture because they do not fit the stereotype.
Excuse me for:
- That still picture you see before you play the video
- The skip towards the end (my webcam stopped working and I had to rerecord the ending)
- Sounding like an after school special
- My round face
- Possibly not making much sense but that’s just how my brain seems to be nowadays
These are some beautiful words from a very wise lady

I need this outfit! where did she get it??
I got the skirt and shirt from Sai Sai in Camden, the brand is RQ-BL; and the corset is from Burleska in Camden also :)
You look wonderful! Just a little tip though: Don’t tie the laces around the corset. It wears out the fabric and ruins its look! (:
Thank you! But don’t worry, I only had them tied around the corset because it’s just easier, and I was quickly taking a photo of my new clothes :) If I’m going out somewhere I will make the effort to tie them up properly :)
Wow thank you so much!! <3
I’m sorry for the late reply! Life has been rather hectic…
There isn’t really a specific place or shop that you can buy low-key Goth boots, but I would suggest vintage stores. I bought my ‘semi-Goth’ boots, as I like to call them, from a vintage store in Camden called Rokit. And you can also find a lot of army-style boots there too.
If you want new boots instead of second-hand ones, you can buy army boots from many places online, just Google some online army stores and you’ll be sure to find some.
A lot of pre-made Goth boots are seriously over-priced, so my best suggestion would be the vintage stores, and if they’re a bit too low-key, you can always go back to the traditional Goth ways and apply a bit of DIY to make them as you wish! :)
I hope this helps :)
